Fotoware appoints Terje Wibe as new CEO

November 2, 2026

Viking Growth portfolio company Fotoware has appointed Terje Wibe as its new CEO. Wibe brings extensive experience in scaling technology companies and will lead Fotoware into its next phase of international growth.

Wibe joins Fotoware after more than 12 years as CEO of Mercell, where he played a key role in transforming the company from a Norwegian software provider into a leading European tendering platform. During his tenure, Mercell expanded significantly through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions. Earlier in his career, Wibe served as CEO of Dagbladet, one of Norway's leading news media brands.

Fotoware is a leading provider of Digital Asset Management (DAM) software, helping organizations manage, organize, and control their digital content. With more than three decades of experience, the company serves customers across industries, including media, retail, manufacturing, public institutions and cultural heritage.

As organizations manage increasing volumes of digital content, and AI creates new demands for content authenticity, rights management and security, Fotoware sees significant opportunities for further growth.

"Every organization is becoming a content organization. Content is created and used in ever greater volumes, across more channels and systems. At the same time, AI is raising the stakes: knowing where content comes from, who owns the rights and whether it can be trusted is becoming business-critical. That is exactly where Fotoware has decades of expertise," says Terje Wibe, CEO of Fotoware.

Building on a strong foundation

Viking Growth invested in Fotoware in 2020 and has since supported the company's continued development and international expansion.

Wibe succeeds Anne Gretland, who has led Fotoware since 2017. During her tenure, Fotoware has grown its revenue fivefold and strengthened its position in the international DAM market.

"Anne has done a formidable job building Fotoware into the company it is today. Under her leadership, the company has grown its revenue fivefold, while building a strong platform, loyal customers, a dedicated team with a strong culture, and a respected position in the DAM market. On behalf of the board and Viking Growth, I want to thank her for her leadership and dedication," says Jostein Vik, Partner at Viking Growth and Chair of the Board of Fotoware.

Wibe's appointment marks the next chapter in Fotoware's growth journey, with ambitions to further strengthen its international market position through organic growth, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions.

"Terje brings a rare combination of international growth experience, technology leadership and a strong understanding of the media and communications landscape. Fotoware operates in a market with enormous potential, and Terje has shown at Mercell how to turn a strong Norwegian technology company into a European leader. We believe he is the right leader to take Fotoware forward," Vik adds.

Wibe looks forward to building on Fotoware's strong foundation and exploring new growth opportunities.

"Fotoware combines decades of expertise with a strong position wherever trust and security matter. My first priority is to listen and learn from our people, customers and partners. From there, I see a significant opportunity to grow Fotoware, both organically and through acquisitions and partnerships," concludes Wibe.
